A Very Retro Update

A couple of weeks ago we published a photo of the 2005 Big Ten Cross-Country Championships — a brilliant photo in its own right and (as we unabashedly gushed) because it depicted one of the greatest team collegiate cross-country efforts ever recorded. For those of you too lazy to click here to see the original post, the Cliff’s Notes version is, Wisconsin took eight of the top nine places and dropped eight guys under 24:40 for 8K.

So who was the crafty scamp who broke up Wisconsin’s clean sweep? The young lad to the left in the photo above, Sean Jefferson, who finished fifth in that epic race. A former NCAA champion in the indoor 1-mile, Jefferson now has turned his attention to triathlons. We caught up with him at a Nike-sponsored training run in Miami yesterday afternoon. It just goes to show, you never know who you might run into out on the roads.

Keep up with Sean’s running/triathlon career at www.jeffersonracing.com.
