Florida State can thumb their noses at University of Florida in at least one academic aspect: The men’s track & field teams at Brigham Young University and Florida State University were named Scholar Teams of the Year in D-I for 2011 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The squads earned the distinction by being the highest-placing teams with at least a 3.00-cumulative GPA at the most recent NCAA indoor and outdoor championship, respectively. Just more salt for the wounds of Gator fans given the preseason football poll.

The Oregon Track Club Elite had a big week last week when Lauren Fleshman (5,000m) and Ben Bruce (steeplechase) were added to the IAAF World’s roster in Korea due to A-Standard performances in Europe this summer. Always nice to see an A-Standard performance out of any U.S. distance runners.

The Kenyans swept New England’s most storied pub crawl (i.e., Falmouth) 1-2-3, with Ohio State grad Brian Olinger taking fourth. American by way of Poland Magdalena Lewy-Boulet took the women’s title. For the Kenyans, it was a continuation of their Beach to Beacon dominance the week prior…

…But do they give awards for the first barefoot finisher?
