Because we’re not just about the Weekly Retro, Rabbit Ears is your new-music audio dump specifically suited to get you pumped (and keep you pumped) during those long, tough workouts. Following up his country playlist, University of Michigan’s Zach Ornelas brings you five upbeat indie-pop songs that are great to run to or just lounge around to.

Bear in Heaven – Lovesick Teenagers – Beast Rest Forth Mouth

The synths that make up the instrumental to this track by Bear in Heaven provide a steady tempo to run to.  The song isn’t bad either. Key Line: “So just embrace it, Our destination.”

Frou Frou – Let Go – Details

“Let Go,” from Imogen Heap’s side electronic project, Frou Frou, provides a unique combination of electronic music and pop complimented by Imogen’s chilling vocals.  Great song to do any sort of run to. Key Line: “So let go, let, jump in, oh well what are you waiting for?”

Spoon – I Turn My Camera On – Gimme Fiction

Austin, Texas-based Spoon has many tracks that are great to run to (and will probably appear in future playlists).  “I Turn my Camera on” is a snappy and upbeat tune for you to enjoy on your run. Key Line: “Keep on blowin’ up”

Junip – Rope & Summit – Fields (Deluxe Version)

Like Frou Frou, Junip is another side project of an already successful artist, Jose Gonzales.  While Jose’s original compositions may not be the greatest to run to, his side project Junip is.  Key Line: “It’s time to wake up, time to move on”

The Pass – Trap of Mirrors – Burst

Indie-Pop band “The Pass” could be a cross between Passion Pit and The Naked and Famous.  Both of those bands have made previous Rabbit Ears mixes, so it’s fitting that a combo of the sound of those two bands would make this list.  A great and catchy song to run to. Key Line: “Only there could he get things completed, Only there would the distractions go away.”

Zach Ornelas ran a 9:09 3,000-meter steeplechase in the Indiana Milers Club High Performance Meet recently. Although he loves running and living in Michigan for school, he can’t wait to get back to Texas where it’s always sunny! Agree or disagree with his song choices?
